Comfy Cozy

Emma and Dada get cozy in our new recliner. We like that the new chair has room for two, so long as one of the two is Emma!

Emma’s latest thing is pretending that she is a baby. She will whimper and say “I a baby” and want us to carry her like an infant. She also has been enjoying her baby dolls more, pretending to feed and burp them and change their diapers.

Emma likes to play “policeman”. When we are driving she will say “Dada, not go too fast. Policeman will stop you.” In the basement, she will want us to pretend that we are speeding so that she can stop us and give us a “naughty ticket.”

Storytime has started up again at the library. Emma loves the singing, dancing and parachute time. She also enjoys doing the craft. Our fridge is really starting to fill up with coloring pages and crafts. She is growing out of some of her shyness and seems to enjoy social times at church, MOPS, and the library. She is growing up in so many ways!

Wintry Wonder

Finally, Emma gets a good solid snowstorm to play in. She wanted to try out her new slide first thing after the snow came (she outgrew her little blue toddler slide). We are hoping to take her to a sledding hill soon. So far we have just pulled her around in the back yard. She also loves to make snow angels and make snowy recipes with her sand toys up in her moon house.

Yesterday we took a daytrip over to St. Joseph Children’s Museum. Emma had a great time playing with all of the exhibits. She especially enjoyed the volcano slide, the bubble machine and driving the ambulance. She cried when we had to leave to come home. It is so hard when fun has to come to an end!

Emma has started having some huge success with potty training in the last week or so. We have a prize basket she can choose a prize out of every time she successfully uses the potty. She is so proud of herself each time she goes. Today she had a dry diaper all afternoon and evening. She keeps asking if she is ready to wear underpants. She is getting close I think. She is doing so many big girl things and we are so proud of her.

We are now in recovery mode from the holidays. We had a fun week of visiting and hosting Christmas. Now that the guests are gone, we are trying to balance clean up and rest time. Emma had such a fun time with her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. And she certainly had more fun this year opening her presents. Last year we could hardly get her interested in them.

In just the last couple of days, Emma has shown interest again in using the potty and has done so successfully on two occasions. She got a surprised and proud look on her face! She is growing up fast and learning so many things. We are eager to see what 2012 will hold for us.

Merry Christmas

Emma enjoyed going to the Nutcracker with us last Saturday. Her babysitter was one of the toy soldiers, so we went to see her at their dress rehearsal performance in the afternoon. We were prepared for Randy to take Emma for an early departure. I think Randy was hopeful to escape some of the ballet by using Emma’s squirmyness as an excuse. Unfortunately for him, Emma did really well and lasted through the entire performance. She seemed to enjoy the dancing and music.

This weekend we will head up to Grandma & Grandpa C’s for Christmas Eve and stay overnight. We hope to have some of Randy’s family over to our house on Monday for more family fun. We are excited to see Emma enjoy Christmas this year. She is starting to understand the nativity story and hopefully she will remember throughout life the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Cheer

We hope that you had a good Thanksgiving weekend. We arrived back home on Friday evening and were ready for some Christmas decorating Saturday morning. Emma loved helping with the tree. She especially seemed to enjoy the shiny garland. She also loves playing with her Little People nativity set. It will be fun to experience Christmas with her this year, now that she understands more. She knows that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday and she can identify the baby Jesus in the nativity.

Emma keeps learning new things. Last night she got out of the bathtub all by herself. And this morning she put her raincoat on without any assistance. We seem to be at an impasse with potty training…perhaps we will try again after the holidays. Enjoy the Christmas season.

First Fall Snow

Emma was so thrilled with our first snow. She wanted to go out and play in it as soon as she got up. She made snow angels, we made a little Emma sized snowman and I pulled her around in the backyard on her sled, which she has nearly outgrown from last year. Grandpa C helped Emma make a big snowman, and over the course of the warm weekend, we watched it start to lean, then melt to the ground.

We just got back from a fun couple of days in Frankenmuth. We stayed at Zehnder’s Splashpark and Emma loved going down the water slides and lazy river. She even seemed to enjoy the shopping too. Now we are back home and enjoying a fun visit with an aunt and cousins. It has been a busy but fun time.

Trick or Treat, Take 2

Emma had tons of fun trick or treating on Halloween. I thought we would do a handful of houses on our street, but she wanted to keep going and get as much loot as possible. Even when she was frozen as a popsicle, she wanted to keep on. She was adorable as a little bumblebee and did really well saying trick or treat and thank you at each house. We came home and selected one treat before bed: Skittles. Emma even willingly shared some with Momma. It was a fun and memorable night.

Randy converted Emma’s crib into a toddler bed last weekend and Emma loves it. You can tell she feels like such a big girl getting in and out of her bed all by herself. I was a little afraid that she would fall out, but she tends to stay on the one end of the bed where the guardrail is and she hasn’t fallen out once. She just keeps growing and accomplishing new things!

Trick or Treat

Emma and her cousins went trick or treating at Binder Park Zoo last weekend. Emma wore a puppy dog costume, but not long after we arrived she decided it was too warm and took it off all by herself. She still was able to haul in some loot and had a great time.
Emma is finally over a cold but has now passed it on to mama and dada. She continues to grow and learn more words. She can reach light switches, open doors and likes to pretend she can read my books.
We have told Emma that we would like to bring home a brother or sister for her someday, and she said that she wants a sister! We have completed a homestudy and I am working on updating a scrapbook for birthmoms to look at.
Life has been busy here in our household. I have been working from home approximately ten hours a week, which has kept me a little busier than I like. I have been slow on doing blog updates and I apologize for that. I will try to get back on track.
Emma and I have started potty training this week. Okay, I am already potty trained, but I am helping Emma! She likes to sit down and try. We even have a tiny potty where her friend Cheetah sits and tries. So far no actual success…but I hear these things take time!
